John Doe will play Fingerprints record store tomorrow evening, free; the guest list is currently open. The store is also giving away tickets to a RHCP simulcast concert screening, which will be happening tomorrow evening at the Art Theatre, a few blocks from the store down Fourth Street. Maximize your evening and hit up both events:

Tuesday, August 30th 7:00pm (Tomorrow Night)

John Doe, the legendary frontman of LA punk heroes X, is stopping in for his fourth in-store visit and we couldn’t be happier. Seriously. Could not be happier.

While John is still active with X, as well as their country cousins The Knitters, it’s his work as a solo songwriter that continues to blow our minds.

Keeper is John Doe’s 9th solo record, from a solo career that has run from dusty country to fiery ass-kicking punk rock, John Doe’s songs are usually peopled by decent folks who find themselves on the wrong side of the coin-flip, but Keeper finds John on the sunnier side of the street, where he’s found out that songs about good things happening to decent folks, in the right hands, makes for very compelling listening. John gets a little help on this one, from friends like Patty Griffin, Don Was, Smokey Hormel, Steve Berlin, Cindy Wasserman and the wonderful Jill Sobule.

There are a handful of recent tracks available to listen to on John’s myspace page, click over for a little taste.

We have opened the guest list, first come, first served, but your pre-order of Keeper on CD or LP will get you priority entry and a poster, so give us a call at 562.433.4996 or stop by and we’ll get you all set-up for the show (with or without a pre-order). Hopefully we’ll see you at this sure to be memorable event.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Live Simulcast at the Art Theatre 8/30 9:00pm

Red Hot Chili Peppers will be playing their new album, and a bunch of hits, live in Germany tomorrow night and the Art Theatre is hosting a simulcast (big seats, big sound, good popcorn). We’ll be there slinging CDs and we’ll be bringing some cool goodies, including a few posters and badges to supersize your purchase. There will also be a drawing for a signed poster and a complete Warner Bros RHCP catalog on CD. Tickets available at the door, the new album, I’m With You, is available today at the shop, and it will also be available at our booth at the screening tomorrow night.

The first 4 people to come into the shop and tell us the name of your favorite RHCP song will receive a free ticket to the screening. One per person.

CYHSY @ Troub by Sung

People of Los Angeles,

Due to the fact that all of our flights have been canceled, there is no possible way for us to make it to LA to play our show at the Echoplex.   We were really looking forward to coming out west and seeing all your lovely faces!  Between Sunset Junction and Irene it’s been a rough couple of days.  We’ll make it back to LA soon, we promise.

Leo is the lead guitarist, composer, innovator & the musical originator of the syncopated funk-style that won international acclaim for him and the band known as the “Pioneers of Funk”, THE METERS, the 2001 Gramy Lifetime Achievement Award Winners. Stanton Moore

Born and raised in New Orleans (and living there still, when he’s not on the road), Stanton Moore is very much a product of geography, culture and creative networking. He grew up in the thriving music scene of his hometown that included Professor Longhair, Doctor John, the Meters and countless other Big Easy mainstays.

Moore has also been keeping busy with numerous side projects, including new albums with Galactic and Garage a Trois. His innovative work as a member of the internationally acclaimed R&B group, The Meters, as well as his side work with artists like Keith Richards, Robert Palmer, and Dr. John, has garnered him an unparalleled level of respect among musicians and fans. Ziggy’s style is unique. He is a master of creating funk grooves and new concepts for funk drumming. Full press release and show details after the jump.

Final Also I Like to Rock Show of 2011 THIS Thursday
w/ Henry Clay People and Lady Danville

The free music series is a cultural collaboration between KCRW and the Hammer Museum

After three hugely successful weeks, the final show in the Hammer Museum’s 2011 Also I Like to Rock series is upon us THIS Thursday, July 28. The combination of the warm Westside summer breeze, live music, and fascinating art makes this series something that stands apart from all other music events in the city. If that isn’t motivation enough, the show is free and all ages.

It is a homecoming of sorts for indie rock trio Lady Danville (on at 9:30pm), who met as part of UCLA’s Awaken A Capella ensemble. Also, be prepared to sing along with your fists in the air to The Henry Clay People (on at 8:15p), whose energy is entirely contagious. KCRW DJ Chris Douridas will host the festivities.

The series is a collaboration between KCRW (89.9FM and KCRW) and the Hammer Museum. Week after week has flown by with remarkable performances to packed audiences by Graffiti6, Eastern Conference Champions, Grouplove, Hanni El Khatib, Milo Greene and The Soft Pack. The series curator was Kevin Bronson, of Buzzbands LA.
